Making Hay – Seedhouse Q3 News – 2025

Hello friends. We’re breaking out the flannels and scrambling for Halloween stuff while relishing the last bits of summer. Exciting new launches are on the horizon, but for now we’ll proudly wow you with some other notable things from our sphere.

A Tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright

LA FOURNETTE | PACKAGING

La Fournette’s luscious macarons are authentically French, and uniquely Chicagoan. In 2010, Master Baker and 2x World Baking Champion, Pierre Zimmerman closed the 118-year-old family bakery in France to pursue greater adventure in Chicago. He quickly fell in love with Frank Lloyd Wright and this gift box was crafted to honor the wonderful French American combination. Order a box or visit the cafe here in Chicago. SWITCHBACK FOODS | BRAND & PACKAGING DESIGN, NAMING, LINE EXTENSIONS

Meet your new smoothie obsession, Blueberry Beast! No joke. This is a juicy, bold & easy-to-make greens smoothie (heck, you don’t need a blender!). It’s made from real fruits and veggies, freeze-dried fresh, and ready when you are. This is ridiculously good and surprisingly easy. We designed it. We even attended the first production run and sampling, and quickly placed the first order! (True story). And have since re-ordered! Long live the 3 second smoothie.

Let’s Get Nutty

SQUIRREL COLLECTIVE | NAMING, BRAND STRATEGY, BRAND & PACKAGE DESIGN

For those looking to lounge a little longer meet the newest THC-infused nut butter brand that’s ready-to-go, and infused with joy. Eat it straight from the pouch. Spread it on toast or add it to a home cooked meal. Developed by a baker-craftsman, these nut butters combine culinary expertise with a passion for cannabis, resulting in a product so nutty and delicious, you’ll want to devour it vs. stashing it for the winter! Now find them in Illinois dispensaries and congrats to the team on a successful launch (and great party!).

DOMINION HEMP | BRAND & PACKAGING REDESIGN

Did you know that hemp has a long and somewhat complicated history here in the United States? Hemp was once a vital, industrial fiber crop used to make rope, textiles, paper, etc.  Until the late 1800s, hemp fiber was used to make 90% of all paper! (Fun fact: the first American flags and drafts of the Declaration of Independence were made from/on hemp material). Well, what is old is new again and this pioneering group has been revolutionizing the animal bedding industry for the last 10yrs with an incredible hemp product that far outperforms traditional material. Cheers to that!

THE EARLY CHILDHOOD ALLIANCE | FAMILY & FRIENDS

We’re going to deviate a bit here and showcase an organization doing serious good. The ECA is a collaboration of over 45 multi-sector organizations committed to helping improve the lives of young children 0-5 years old. Their efforts have been so successful that IL state leaders secured funding for them to continue their work, but a technical error in the state budget made those promised funds inaccessible. To help make our community stronger, they need your help

SEEDHOUSE IN THE WILD

While participating in our favorite pastime of walking grocery store aisles near and far, we’ve spotted Seedhouse work all over the world and close to home. The latest examples are Big League Chew in Don Quijote (Tokyo, Japan) and a wall of Jackson’s in Costco (Chicago, IL).

TEAM SEEDHOUSE SAILING

Once in a while, we get to sail the waters of beautiful Lake Michigan and keep an eye out for one of the estimated 600 shipwrecks that litter the sandy bottom. This year, the team sailed the boat down from its dry dock in Waukegan to its summer slip in Wilmette. It took 4 hours, but fun was had by all, including by two of our partners, Ian and Kate.
